World Teachers’ Day 2025 global celebration.

The global celebration will be hosted by the African Union in the framework of the Pan-African Conference on Teacher Education in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The 2025 World Teachers’ Day will celebrate the inherent collective nature of teaching through the theme: “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession.” This year’s event aims to highlight the vital roles teachers play in education systems while emphasizing the transformative potential of collaboration both within and outside of classrooms.

Co-convened by UNESCO with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International (EI), the celebration will be hosted by the African Union in the framework of the Pan-African Conference on Teacher Education (PACTED) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The morning will feature an opening ceremony with high-level representatives from convening partners, followed by a ministerial panel, moderated by the African Union, on the topic “From isolation to collective strength: Reenvisioning the teaching profession through the lens of collaboration.” Discussions will explore how collaboration can enhance teacher voice, professional identity and educational outcomes, with contributions from Ministers of Education, regional leaders and teacher representatives, advocating for initiatives such as communities of practice, mentoring schemes and co-teaching.
